President Donald Trump promised Thursday to make a “spectacular” announcement on the question of the wall he intends to build on the Mexican border.
This announcement is expected on Thursday or Friday, he added, saying it will be his most important speech on this issue and that it will cover illegal immigrants who cross the border illegally.
“It will be a statement having to do with the border and having to do with people illegally coming over the border and it will be my biggest statement so far on the border,” Trump told reporters Thursday.
“I’m not closing the border, I’m doing something else,” Trump said.
So far, the President has failed to convince Congress to toughen immigration laws and allocate funds for the construction of a wall on the Mexican border, the key promise of his election campaign.
Exasperated by Congress’s refusal to release funds for the construction of the wall, the president cited a “national emergency” to order the reallocation of $6.7 billion already approved for other purposes.
